Finnish by birth, Jirka Vaatainen was first able to attract many followers in April 2011, when he posted his series of artwork portraying real life Disney princesses. He picks up cartoon characters and draws them looking way too much realistic from what we can ever imagine.
About his art and paintings, Vaatainen shared some inside thoughts with MTV saying, “”I have always been interested in character design, as well as the way people look and what makes them unique in their appearances.”
Ever since his debut on Instagram and Pinterest, the social media picture sharing sites, his artwork has been gaining an increased amount of attention and praise. Vaatainen is pursuing his degree from the Arts University College in Bournemouth, and he also loves art direction and photo manipulation.

Explaining where he got his inspiration from, Vaatainen reveals, “I was inspired by the idea of recreating these characters that we all know and love, in a way I would imagine them to look like if they were ‘more real’, while still staying somewhat true to the unrealistic quirks in their original character designs.”
Thanking his many followers on social media, the multifaceted illustrator says, “The response has been overwhelming, since I never really expected many people to see these. I am so grateful for people taking the time to comment on my work and get in contact with me after seeing these. It is so rewarding to see how many people can appreciate what I’ve done with the characters they all know and love as well,”
And finally, Vaatainen also made Beauty’s irritating beau, Gaston, who is wearing the same over confident smile, only looking very much alive.
